So for the last 10 days my family and I were enjoying on crazy-amazing, once-in-a-lifetime cruise from Athens to Turkey and several Greek islands with my mother’s family. Every day during the trip I said to myself, “I can’t freaking believe I’m standing at the _________.” (Fill in the blank: Acropolis, Hagia Sophia, Ephesus, last house of the Virgin Mary, St. John’s Grotto of the Apocalypse, Mykonos windmills, Santorini volcano) So many beautiful/historic/inspiring/ancient places! I also discovered that I am indeed a cruise person. For getting around to see lots of locations without having to pack your suitcase every day, a cruise really can’t be beat. And what’s not to like about sitting in a lounge after a hard day of sightseeing, having a G&T and talking to a friendly waiter before heading in to the dining room to enjoy a first-class dinner prepared by someone else?
More on the trip soon (seriously, I just collected months of material in the last 10 days). During the trip I also had the chance to re-read Have His Carcase and Gaudy Night by Dorothy Sayers and have a lot of thoughts about Harriet Vane, Lord Peter Wimsey, and authors and characters just trying way too hard.
