colleagues, Dulles Airport, fortitude, getting up early, leaving work early, never-ending client meetings
On Monday, I was grateful for terrific work colleagues. I didn’t sleep well Sunday night – yes, I was stressed about work – and woke up exhausted on Monday morning. But like a good girl I took the train and rolled into work early. My colleague saw me, and told me to go home early because I looked so tired.
So I did. I changed all my afternoon meetings, went home at lunch and finished the work day at home. It also gave me time to pack for a quick business trip to Virginia, see my family, and attend my daughter’s youth orchestra concert that night. So thanks, work colleague, for reminding me what’s important in life.
Yesterday I was thankful for fortitude. I had to get up at 4 AM to catch an early flight to Dulles. I didn’t sleep well the previous night (for the second night in a row); I kept waking up, convinced I’d overslept my alarm. I got a catnap on the flight to Dulles, happily.
Then my colleagues and I spent 9 hours in a conference room with a client, getting information from various people to structure a research project. There were some interesting people and interesting challenges, but in my tired state it was tough to stay alert, to stay focused, to stay awake. So thanks, fortitude. I owe you one.
